Pressure Release in the Triangle Offense

Definition of Pressure Release

The term pressure release refers to exactly what the words hint: releasing pressure. The Triangle was so effective because they anticipated what defenses would try to do to eliminate options within the offense and had a predetermined response for those defensive actions.

Pressure Release in 1991, 1993, and 1998

This option actually appeared before the pinch post but never the less they fed off of eachother. In the early 90's the continuation was a handoff between the passer and the player who flashed to the high post (if the back cut was not available).

In the second half of the 90's the continuation became a down screen for a shooter coming out of the corner and allowing space for the receptor to play 1 on 1.

In 2010 this option was used as much as a high post entry as a pressure release.
