The "Pinch Post"

Definition of the Pinch Post

The pinch post is the term used for utilizing the high post on the help side of the floor
when passing out of the Triangle. As we will see this option was utilized in a variety of ways throughout the years.

The pinch post was first utilized in the early 90's but it wasn't until the late 90's it became a central option in the triangle offense.

In 2010 the Lakers also used the Pinch Post when passing out of the Triangle.

They also incorporated the pinch post as an option on the first pass, I imagine as a result of the lack of patience of today's players and the desire of superstars to play 1 on 1.

Here is another option for a first pass entry to the pinch post, this time also looking for a shooter coming off of a double screen on the help side.
